Rit is a food rescue app that helps reduce waste and deliver surprise meals from local restaurants.
Rooted in the ideas of Reserve it, Recommend it, Rate it, Rit connects users to nearby restaurants offering surprise bags of delicious surplus food delivered right to their door at the end of the day.
My role was to create a design experience that felt as flavorful as the meals themselves, bold, simple, and deeply user-centric. I designed the mobile and web apps with accessibility and inclusivity in mind, reducing cognitive load and decision fatigue.
This project was all about making sustainability feel exciting, easy, and irresistible through bold colors, simple interactions, and food-centric visuals (keeping in mind users have to make decisions easily). The app also features content from popular food bloggers, turning it into a social space for discovery and food storytelling, not just transactions.
The goal: reduce decision fatigue and make the end-of-day food rush feel like a fun, rewarding surprise.
Using clear user flows and vibrant UI elements, I mapped journeys that made it easy for users to explore surprise food bags, reserve with ease, and stay engaged. I also designed around personas like foodies, people looking to save money or people that have very little cash, eco-conscious consumers, and busy urban dwellers.
The visuals and color pallets were designed to grab attention (inspired by the richness and warmth of African cuisine) both in app stores and on the street. While the Rit logo had already been designed, I built out the full visual direction from color palettes and typography to mockups and real-world applications.
Rit is currently in beta and set to launch in June 2025. Being part of a mission-driven product that tackles food waste while helping restaurants stay profitable was incredibly fulfilling. It's design with real-world impact and I’m proud to have helped bring it to life.
